About this policy

This policy explains what the Snapvia website and download service (“Snapvia”, “we” or “us”) handles when you use it. Snapvia is an independent tool and isn’t affiliated with Instagram or Meta Platforms, Inc. Your use of Snapvia is also covered by our Terms of Use.

Snapvia has no accounts, no sign-in, and no ads. It never asks for your Instagram username or password.

What we collect

Snapvia handles only what it needs to find and deliver the media you ask for.

  • The Instagram link you submit. Before using it, we remove tracking parameters and check that it points to a supported kind of Instagram page.
  • Your IP address. Your browser sends it with every request, and we use it to count how many requests come from the same place within a minute.
  • Standard request details, such as your browser type, the pages and download links your browser asks for, and the time of each request. Our hosting provider may record these in server logs. A download link contains an encoded copy of the file’s source address and name, so logs of download links can show what was downloaded.
  • Technical error details. When something fails, our server may log an error message so we can find and fix the cause.
  • What you send us if you contact us, such as your email address and your message.

If you tap the Paste button, your browser may ask permission to read your clipboard. Snapvia reads it only when you tap, to fill in the link box. Nothing goes to our server until you press Download.

How we use it

We use this information to check your link, find the media, and deliver the files to you. We also use it to protect the service: we limit how many requests one visitor can make, and we look into errors so we can fix them.

We use it only for these purposes. Snapvia doesn’t run analytics or advertising tools.

Files and downloads

When you download a file, Snapvia fetches it from Instagram’s servers and passes it to your browser as it arrives. Previews of photos and videos load the same way. The requests to Instagram come from our server, not from your device. We don’t save a copy of any file.

Who else is involved

Snapvia relies on other services to work. Each one handles information under its own terms and privacy policy, and we don’t control them.

  • An extraction service. Our server sends it the Instagram link and gets back the addresses of the photos and videos. The request comes from our server, so we don’t pass your IP address to the service, but it may keep its own records of requests.
  • Instagram. We fetch files from Instagram’s servers on your behalf. Instagram has its own terms and privacy policy for your use of Instagram.
  • A rate-limit store. To count requests, we keep short-lived counters tied to your IP address, either in our server’s memory or in a hosted Redis database from Upstash.
  • Our hosting provider. It receives your requests and may keep standard server logs.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or when we need to protect our rights, our users, or the service. These services and our servers can be in countries other than yours, so information may be processed outside the country where you live.

Cookies and local storage

Snapvia doesn’t set cookies of its own, and it doesn’t store anything in your browser’s local storage.

How long we keep information

  • Request counters reset every minute, and we use them only to enforce rate limits.
  • Download links expire after a short time, and we don’t keep a list of them.
  • Server logs kept by our hosting provider stay for as long as that provider’s settings allow.
  • Messages you send us are kept as long as we need them to reply and to keep a record of your request.
  • The other services described above keep information under their own policies.

Security

Download links are signed and expire after a short time, and we only fetch files from an approved list of media servers. In production, the site is served over HTTPS and tells browsers to keep using it. No system is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee the safety of information you send us.

Your choices and rights

Snapvia doesn’t keep accounts or profiles, so we hold little that we could link to you. Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information, such as asking what we hold, asking us to correct or delete it, or objecting to how it is used. To make a request, contact us. We will respond as the law that applies to you requires.

Information held by the other services described above is under their control, so contact them directly about it.

Children

Snapvia isn’t aimed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. Snapvia doesn’t ask for names, ages, or accounts. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will look into it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. If you keep using Snapvia after an update, the updated policy applies to you.
